Twitter Ireland turns a profit
Twitter?s Dublin-based operation recorded a profit in its first 15 months in business here.

Twitter was established in Sept 2011 and employs around 100 people. The firm has unlimited status and is not required to file annual accounts. However, an auditor?s report recently filed with the Companies Office confirms that the company recorded a profit in the 15 months to the end of Dec 2012.The level of profit is not disclosed in the three-page auditor?s report drafted by auditors, PWC.
The Dublin-based firm is the parent of UK subsidiary, Twitter UK Ltd. Abridged accounts recently filed by that firm with Companies House show that its accumulated profits increased more than six-fold from ?16,499 to ?108,907 in the year to the end of Dec 2012. The IDA secured a major coup with Twitter basing its European HQ at Dublin following the likes of Google and Facebook establishing their European bases here.
Twitter?s corporate website confirms that the micro-blogging company is recruiting 25 people for its Dublin base, with a number of the posts including senior roles in Twitter?s bid to increase revenues across its European, Middle East and African markets.
Twitter?s Dublin operation is headed up by Harvard and Trinity-educated Dubliner, Stephen McIntyre and some of the posts currently being advertised include European, Middle East and African head of business development, tax manager, sales operation manager and head of HR.
Other roles include contracts manager, marketing campaigns manager and account executives for the Belgium, French, Israeli, Italian and Swedish markets.
Twitter, which announced last week that it had filed confidential paperwork to begin the process of selling stock in an initial public offering, has disclosed little or no information about its finances.
A spokeswoman for Twitter yesterday declined to respond to queries.
