Making Money Costs Money | Internet Marketing for Business - Jim ...

I do a LOT of free consulting with people. I have all kinds of different people who contact me about needing help. Some are people who want to start a Web business. Some are people who already have businesses, online and offline, who want to take it to the next level. Some people just have no idea what to do!

I get it. I?ve been there. This is why I do so many calls where I give away my time for free. So I can help people find success.

But one thing bothers me the most when I talk to people, and that is that they want something for nothing. Look, it?s a great time to build a business online. In fact, I?ve always said there?s never been a greater time in the history of the world to do this without having to spend a ton of money to do it. And yes, building a business is cheaper than ever. The technology and costs of things like domain names and web hosting are so low now that you really don?t have much of an excuse to try them.

My point is: If you want to make money, you have to spend money. Even if it?s just a little.

I?ve had several potential client calls this week where I proceeded to completely give away my ideas and specific strategy for what each business needed to do to be successful. All they had to do was take notes, and then go do what I said. Now, if they want me to do it for them, which is what I do, then I have to charge. I?ll give away information ALL DAY LONG for free. But when I have to get my hands dirty there is naturally time involved, which is costs for me and my team. They get that. Business 101.

The problem comes when I hear them say that they know I?m right, and they know they have to do it, but they just can?t spend the money right now. Again, I get it. If you don?t have the money, you don?t have it. I would never take a job if I didn?t think I could help the person. Never. So that?s not what this is about.

This is about investing in your success. Sure, I could fix my own shower, but you know what? I am not a professional plumber and it would take a 20 times as long to fix it, and I?d probably screw it up. I realize that I have to pay the professional to do it for me.

Running a successful business is about knowing what you know and helping your customers with that skillset or knowledge. At some point you need to realize that you won?t be able to grow your business to the next level until you get a professional to do it for you.
