Deputy Fire Chief Mike Jones issued the following statement today on yesterday?s house fire in the Twin Lakes Subdivision:
?A properly installed and working smoke detector is credited with alerting a family to a fire in their home and allowing them to escape safely. The fire occurred on Sunday morning in the Twin Lakes neighborhood of Fredericksburg. The residence was located at 205 Twin Lakes Drive.
?Fredericksburg Emergency Communications received a 9-1-1 call from the occupants at 205 Twin Lakes Drive reporting a smoke detector sounding and possible fire in their
home at 10:20 am. Fire Department units responded and arrived a short time later to find some smoke showing around the eaves on the front of the home. Firefighters
made entry and found a haze of smoke in the house and traced it to a room on fire behind the garage.
?Firefighters conducted an aggressive interior fire attack and had the fire under control within 10 minutes of arrival. The occupants were outside upon arrival
of Fire Department personnel thanks to a smoke detector that alert occupants to smoke in the home. Fire Department personnel did conduct a search to verify all parties were outside and that was correct. The large home required some ventilation with exhaust fans to remove the smoke throughout the structure.
?The Fire Marshal?s Office of the Fredericksburg Fire Department conducted an origin and cause investigation after the fire was extinguished. The origin was in the right front portion of the home in a room located behind the garage. The cause appears to be from an unattended candle left burning that caught combustibles on fire. The fire has been ruled accidental, not suspicious.
?Damage estimates are around $15,000. Fire damage was limited to the room of origin with moderate smoke damage throughout the home.
